Paisley actors wow audiences with song and dance

by Jeff Holmes, Paisley Daily Express

‘TRULY Scrumptious’ describes perfectly an annual show which brings together young actors from three different areas.

The Razzamataz Theatre Group draws on students from its Paisley, Balfron and Bearsden groups.

And it all came together nicely last month when 127 young thespians put on a show, appropriately titled, We’re All in This Together.

The impressive programme demanded superior singing, dancing and acting skills from the cast, as they performed scenes from the Lion King, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Chicago and Blood Brothers.

There was also a tribute to the late king of pop – Michael Jackson.

Each and every student – with ages ranging from just four to 17 – had a part to play and they played it to the full.

Song and dance kept packed houses thoroughly entertained and on the edge of their seats.

Rapturous applause was regularly drawn and the audience laughed when they were supposed to – always a good sign!

And they seemed to appreciate the clever modern street dancing scenes as well as the more traditional dance routines, from the likes of Chicago.

Cast members used short ‘blogs’ to introduce each scene and entered, very enthusiastically, into the thrills and chills during scenes from Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

And there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when the youngest members of the cast sang Ben, made so famous by Michael Jackson in the film of the same name.

The show was compered throughout by Colin Kelly of Radio Clyde.

Natalie James, principal of the Razzamataz Theatre Schools said: “I was so proud of all my students.

“This was an ambitious project and I tried to showcase the amazing talents of all my pupils.

“I am touched by the large numbers of folk who have taken the trouble to call to say how much they enjoyed the show.

“When people describe something you’ve worked hard on as ‘magical’, ‘highly entertaining’ and ‘the best night they’ve had in ages’, it is truly rewarding.

“I owe a great debt of gratitude to my staff, students and everyone else who was involved in the show.”
