Panto set to sparkle!

by Andrew Newport, Paisley Daily Express

AUDIENCES will have a ball when a popular drama group stages its annual panto.

Members of Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Group will perform Cinderella and the show promises to be great fun for all the family.

Performances will take place at Johnstone Town Hall at 7.30pm each evening from Saturday, November 28, until Saturday, December 5.

There will also be matinee shows at 2pm on both Saturdays.

Anna MacDougall, president of Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Group, has vowed that this year’s panto will sparkle as brightly as Cinderella’s glass slippers.

“The show will be a great spectacle,” she said. “We have staged Cinderella as our panto a few times in the past and it has always proved to be popular.

“Cinderella is a great story and is much-loved. The script for this year’s show is written by Liam Rudden, who has tailored it so that the story is set in and around Johnstone, which is a nice touch.

“We are encouraging local people to show their support for the group by coming along to see the show. It’s great entertainment and a wonderful way to get in the mood for Christmas.

“Tickets are selling fast, so people should book their places as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”

Vickie Moore is taking on the title role as Cinderella and she will be able to go to the ball with the help of the Fairy Godmother, who will be played by Paula Sheils.

Sweeping everyone off their feet in the role of Prince Charming will be Barbara Churcher, while Blair Cruikshank and Craig Inglis will be playing it for laughs as the Ugly Stepsisters.

Also in the cast are Ross Adam, who plays Buttons; Norma Ferguson, who takes on the role of Dandini; Alisdair Connell, who is playing the Baron; and Lee Adam, who is the mouse.

The show is being produced by Carol McLaughlan and choreographed by Catriona Clark, while the musical direction is being arranged by Splash Productions.

Tickets for Cinderella are priced £8.50 for adults and £7 for concessions.

To book, call Eileen Pennie on 0774 882 7727 or 0796 104 3794 or visit the box office at Johnstone Town Hall between 10am and 3pm on November 19, 20, 21, 26 and 27.
