Buddies free midfielder Lamont

Jan 4 2013

by Paul Behan, Paisley Daily Express

Midfielder Mark Lamont has been freed by St Mirren.

Lamont had been on loan at First Division outfit Dumbarton and, with that deal now at an end, Buddies boss Danny Lennon has decided the youngster has no future at the Paisley club.

Injuries have restricted Lamont’s career in recent seasons.

He made just one first-team appearance for St Mirren, after being given a late runout as a sub against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in February 2011.

Lamont was twice sent on loan to Dumbarton as he struggled to make the breakthrough at Saints.

Meanwhile, teenage defender Jason Naismith has returned to the Buddies after his loan spell at Morton ended.

And, in other news, Saints have been handed a boost ahead of this month’s Scottish Communities League Cup semi-final with Celtic at Hampden after it was confirmed that Hoops centre-half Kelvin Wilson will be suspended for the game.

Wilson has been given a two-match ban by the SFA for elbowing former Saints striker John Baird during Celtic’s 2-0 league win over Dundee at Dens Park on Boxing Day.
