Cup run means Saints are quids in

Feb 13 2013

by Euan McLelland, Paisley Daily Express

Buddies boss Danny Lennon is delighted the club’s glory run to the League Cup final has produced a welcome cash boost for the Paisley club ... but he insists he won’t be demanding big bucks for new summer signings.

St Mirren are guaranteed a bumper payday next month when they line up against Hearts at Hampden in a bid to secure their first major trophy for more than a quarter of a century.

And that will mean Lennon is in a stronger position when it comes to adding to his squad at the end of the season.

However, he has vowed that, instead of splashing the cash on big name signings, he’ll continue to focus on efforts to nurture the up-and-coming talent which is already blossoming within the club’s youth academy.

Lennon said: “The type of money that will come to St Mirren Football Club through our cup run is a bonus.

“It’s great that we’re able to give the club and our supporters something back and, if the club gets a few quid in the bank, I’m absolutely delighted.

“However, we’re a club that loves to develop our own young players and nothing will change on that front.”
