Danny's delight as star players stay in Paisley

Buddies boss Danny Lennon admits he was a relieved man when the January transfer window slammed shut without any of his star players heading out of the exit door.

Midfield aces Kenny McLean and Paul McGowan were both linked with moves to the English Championship but, in the end, there were no bids for either player and they will be available for today’s Scottish Cup clash.

Lennon said: “Thankfully, we had no enquiries about Kenny.

“All the speculation can be a little bit unsettling but I’m delighted that I now have the opportunity to work with him until the end of the season at least.

“Kenny has been a little unfortunate in that, when any transfer windows have opened, he has picked up an injury but he made a massive contribution on Wednesday evening against Inverness and I’ve absolutely no doubt that his chance will come.

“It probably worked in our favour that he was injured for most of the transfer window.”

Lennon added: “Paul is in a similar situation to Kenny and, after a great performance against Celtic in the League Cup, I half expected there to be speculation about him moving on.

“Someone with Paul’s talent will always attract attention, so we’ll be doing everything in our power to keep him beyond the end of the season.”
