Danny wants Saints to hold on to their prize assets

Feb 13 2013

by Euan McLelland, Paisley Daily Express

Danny Lennon is hoping more of the club’s top players will follow in the bootsteps of Steven Thompson by signing new contracts at the Paisley club.

Thompson handed the Buddies a massive boost yesterday by agreeing an extended contract, while defender David van Zanten has also been given a new deal for next season.

However, as things stand, a host of other star players – including the likes of midfield maestro Paul McGowan – are free to join new clubs this summer.

And Lennon is keen to make sure Saints hold on to their prize assets.

He told Express Sports: “We’re looking at renewing some contracts with other players at this very moment in time.”

Lennon also expressed his delight that Thompson is staying on at St Mirren.

He added: “Steven has been our top scorer for two years, has led the line incredibly well and is a character who motivates the players around him.

“I am delighted Steven has decided to finish his playing career at the club that inspired him to play this beautiful game.”
