Danny Lennon believes patience is the name of the game if St Mirren are to succeed in their bid to lure Paul Dummett back to the club.
Talented full-back Dummett returned to Newcastle United earlier this month after his loan deal at Saints came to an end.
However, the chances of him making a return trip back to Paisley now look brighter, after the Magpies signed a left-back to ease their current injury crisis.
And Lennon is keeping his fingers crossed that the English giants will agree to Dummett rejoining the Buddies.
He said: “I learned last night that Newcastle United have signed a left-back and I think they are also actively looking for another one.
“Newcastle aren’t doing anything wrong. They are only trying to get their own house in order and get what they need but we are very hopeful that, come the end of the January transfer window, Paul will be back here.
“At this minute in time, we are not getting the answers that we are looking for but Newcastle are just looking after their own house.
“We have a great relationship with them, especially with Conor Newton and Paul coming here this season.”
