08:25, Jan 22 2013

A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a head-on crash.

The 58-year-old driver of a Vauxhall Vectra was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with a serious head injury after the collision on the A90 near the Watermill Inn at Peterhead.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene just after 9pm in Monday night.

The 24-year-old driver of the other car, a Ford Fiesta, suffered a broken wrist and his two passengers had minor injuries. All three were taken to the same hospital.

Grampian Police closed the road for several hours to carry out an examination of the scene.

A police spokesman said: "The collision involved a dark grey Vauxhall Vectra motor car and a black Ford Fiesta motor car which collided head-on.

"As a result of the collision, the 58-year-old male driver of the Vauxhall Vectra suffered a serious head injury and was conveyed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where his injuries were described as life-threatening.

"The 24-year-old male driver of the Fiesta suffered a broken wrist. A further two passengers in the Fiesta suffered minor injuries and were conveyed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary."

Inquiries are at an early stage and Grampian Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them.
