Motorists have been urged to take care on the roads as snow and ice created hazardous conditions in many parts of the country.
Blizzards swept across Scotland on Sunday and further heavy snow and freezing temperatures were forecast overnight, causing potential difficulties for this morning's rush hour.
On Sunday night Grampian Police said the A96 Blackburn to Aberdeen route was "extremely icy" and there were police reports of several minor road accidents in the Tayside and Highland areas due to the conditions.
A Transport Scotland spokesman said: "The Met Office is warning of potentially heavy snow Sunday night into Monday morning, which could impact on the rush hour in some areas.
"We would ask the public to remain vigilant and take on board police advice about driving to the conditions.
"Officials are in regular contact with the Met Office, operating companies, police and other responders to ensure that suitable preparations are in place."
The transport body assured drivers that local authorities were well stocked with salt and extra gritters were on standby.
