Fans can have their say on league reconstruction

Saints fans are being given the chance to have their say on the future of Scottish football.

Club chairman Stewart Gilmour is inviting supporters to St Mirren Park for a special question-and-answer session tomorrow night, starting at 7pm.

On the agenda will be the proposed switch to a 12-12-18 league set-up.

Gilmour was at a meeting at Hampden on Monday, when it was agreed that SPL clubs would take these proposals forward to the SFL clubs for further talks.

However, he has again stressed that nothing is a ‘done deal’ – and he wants to hear what St Mirren fans think of the plans before anything concrete is put in place.

Gilmour said: “We will not vote until we know exactly what is on the table in front of us.

“This will not be clear until discussion between the SFL clubs takes place and they take their view on this proposal.

“One thing is certain, we will never all agree on a system for 42 clubs, nor are any of us certain that our own thoughts are the correct ones.

“Even our board has differing thoughts.

“However, it is important we discuss the options available to us.”

Supporters wanting to attend the Q&A session are asked to register their interest online at www.supportsmfc.co.uk/news.html
