Goodwin is Lennon's Captain Fantastic

Danny Lennon has described Jim Goodwin’s contribution to the Saints cause as “invaluable” this season.

Manager Lennon’s been thrilled with the way his captain has handled himself since moving from the midfield anchor role to the heart of the Saints back four.

Goodwin did blot his copybook last week when he was penalised for a push on Matt Done – an offence that saw Hibs striker Leigh Griffiths score from the penalty spot.

But aside from that error of judgement, Lennon feels Goodwin’s a Captain Fantastic.

He said: “Jim’s a good leader and moving him into the back four minimises that aggression he has in the middle of the pitch.

“Back in defence you don’t have to make as many tackles as you do in the middle of the park.

“Jim’s timing is impeccable, as is his concentration. His leadership qualities have been exceptional back there and he’s been invaluable for us.”

Meanwhile, Lennon is convinced his side can finish the campaign strongly.

He added: “It’s important we keep ourselves in the mix with the other teams fighting for the top six.”
