Krestanovich quits the Clan

Braehead Clan player-coach Jordan Krestanovich last night revealed he is quitting the club.

And, in a shock move, the Clan immediately announced former NHL player and coach Paul Gardner as his replacement.

Krestanovich, 31, only took over the reigns at the Elite Ice Hockey League club in June, following the departure of previous incumbent Drew Bannister, who returned to Canada to take up a coaching position.

Now it has been confirmed that Krestanovich is to leave the Renfrew outfit.

And Express Sports can reveal he decided to move on after he was asked to relinquish his coaching duties and concentrate on being a Clan player.

Krestanovich said: “I thought about it for a couple of days but I had to turn it down.

“There aren’t many people who would have accepted being put in that position and I’m certainly not one of them.

“I’m sad to be leaving but that’s hockey.”

Gardner will take full charge of team affairs tomorrow and his first game will be Saturday’s Elite League clash at home to Hull Stingrays.
