Lennon is relishing re-run of cup clash with Celtic

Saints boss Danny Lennon has admitted he is happy at the draw for the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup.

Saturday’s 2-0 home win over St Johnstone saw the Buddies paired with Celtic in the last eight – and a re-run of the League Cup semi-final clash of nine days ago.

Lennon said: “All I wanted was a home draw, and I got my wish, but the big question now is, can lightning strike twice against Celtic?

“I don’t see why not. As we now know, anything can happen in the cup and we’ve shown that we can beat Celtic on our day.

“They are the best team in the country but we rose to the occasion at Hampden, and, in the next tie, we will have home advantage so hopefully that will count for something.”

Progress in both cup competitions will bring with it the unwanted fixture pile-up, but Lennon insisted he would rather have it that way than be out of both cups.

He said: “Going as far as you can in cup competitions is what it’s all about.

“You relish the thought of cup runs and we’re currently enjoying it.

“If that means more games, then so be it. It means we must be doing something right.”
