Lennon issues challenge to up-and-coming stars

Feb 7 2013

by Paul Behan, Paisley Daily Express

Buddies boss Danny Lennon has heaped praise on midfield maestro Kenny McLean...and challenged the Paisley club’s up-and-coming starlets to follow in his footsteps.

With other teenagers such as John McGinn and Thomas Reilly also making a big impression in the first team this season, Lennon has shown he’s not afraid to give youth a chance.

And he reckons Scotland Under-21 star McLean is a shining example of what can be achieved by talented kids if they work hard and soak up the coaching being dished out by youth supremo David Longwell.

Lennon said: “Kenny McLean grasped his opportunity after being given a chance here.

“Our kids know they’ll get the opportunity to train with us on a daily basis – if they show us signs that they have what it takes to step up.

“In recent times, we have given starting debuts to younger players like Thomas Reilly and John McGinn, which shows we’re very much a club that has one eye on the present and one eye on the future.

“The project here, for me, is a long-term one.”
