Man knocked down in car park attack

16:25, Jan 9 2013

Police are hunting a driver who deliberately knocked a man down in a shopping centre car park.

The 33-year-old was walking behind Knightswood shopping centre in Glasgow at about 12.30pm on Tuesday when he was hit by a silver BMW.

He suffered a fractured hip and was treated at the city's Western Infirmary before being released.

Officers are studying CCTV footage from the area and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

Detective Inspector Fil Capaldi said: "This investigation is at an early stage and officers are carrying out enquiries in the area to establish more information on this crime, although we do believe that the man was specifically targeted.

"The only information we have on the car involved at this time is that it was a silver BMW, either a three or five series saloon.

"At this stage, we have no information on who was in the car but our ongoing enquiries should reveal more information.

"The area in and around the shopping centre is usually very busy with both pedestrians and motorists, and I would urge any witnesses to the incident, or anyone who may have seen a car being driven erratically around the time of the incident, to come forward to police as a matter of urgency."

Anyone with information can contact Drumchapel police office on 0141 532 3680 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
