A woman has been subjected to a "terrifying" sexual attack as she returned home from a night out.
The 37-year-old was forced into an area of waste ground and assaulted in Dalmuir, West Dunbartonshire, in the early hours of Saturday.
Detectives said the attacker began talking to the woman as she walked near Dalmuir train station between 1.30am and 2.30am.
As they went towards the area around Glendevon Place, he forced her into waste ground and attacked her.
Detective Sergeant Gerry Shovlin from Strathclyde Police said: "The man started chatting to her and said he was going in the same direction so she was ok for him to walk with her.
"However, this turned into a terrifying attack and we are determined to find the man responsible.
"We are currently checking CCTV from the area but would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area or who maybe heard a disturbance around that time to contact police."
The suspect is described as white, between five feet three inches (1.60 metres) and 5ft 4in (1.63m), of medium build, with fair hair and was wearing dark denim clothing.
