McLean in knee injury scare

Dec 27 2012

by Paul Behan, Paisley Daily Express

St Mirren gaffer Danny Lennon is anxiously awaiting the results of a scan on injured midfielder Kenny McLean.

The talented youngster is struggling to be fit for this Sunday’s SPL trip to Tannadice to play Dundee United after sustaining a knee injury.

McLean, who turns 21 next month, played the entire 90 minutes of Friday night’s 2-1 win over Motherwell.

However, Lennon revealed after the game that the Scotland Under-21 internationalist experienced some discomfort.

And yesterday, McLean’s injury worries intensified when the youngster was left out of the Saints squad that faced Inverness Caley Thistle in the Highlands.

Lennon said: “Until we see the results, we can’t say what the injury might be.

“There is a bit of swelling on his knee and we have taken the precaution of having a scan.”

Meanwhile, defender Jordan Holt has agreed to extend his loan period with East Stirlingshire.

Last month, the 18-year-old went on loan to the Third Division side – and it was agreed he would be with ‘Shire until Saturday, December 22.

However, former Saints manager John Coughlin has struck a deal with his former club to keep the teenager until Saturday, January 19.
