McLean is touch and go for Hampden

Midfielder Kenny McLean faces a race against time to be fit for Sunday’s Scottish Communities League Cup semi-final game against Celtic.

The talented 21-year-old is on the comeback trail following knee surgery before the end of last year.

He has not played since the 2-1 SPL win over Motherwell and, as a result, is lacking match fitness.

McLean is now rated ‘touch and go’ to take his place in the Hampden squad.

And two other Saints players – Graham Carey and David Barron – are also suffering injury problems.

Both players took part in Saturday’s game with Ross County but Carey has a tight hamstring, while Barron is nursing a thigh problem.

Manager Danny Lennon is confident that both players will recover in time to be available for selection this weekend.

Meanwhile, Lennon is hoping that he can be afforded some extra time to run the rule over Polish trialist Patryk Mikita, 19, before making a decision on whether or not to sign the teenager.

The Legia Warsaw forward is at the club in a bid to win a loan move until the summer.
