St Mirren fans were delighted to see their team return to winning ways against Hearts on Wednesday night ... and they’re hoping for an action replay when the two teams clash again at Hampden later this month.
Goals from Paul McGowan and Graham Carey earned the Buddies a 2-0 win against the struggling Jambos.
Now the hope is that Saints will enjoy a similar result in the League Cup Final on Sunday, March 17.
Mikey Robinson, from Renfrew, e-mailed Buddie Banter to say: “It wasn’t the greatest game at St Mirren Park on Wednesday night but the result was great – and I’ll settle for the same again when we play Hearts at Hampden.
“I reckon this is the worst Hearts team in many a year but we can’t afford to be complacent against them.
“As long as Danny Lennon gets his tactics right, the players go into the match with confidence and they stand up to the physical challenge that Hearts will bring, I reckon the League Cup will be heading back to Paisley.
“I’ve already got my party gear looked out and ironed!”
Meanwhile, there has been praise for Carey, following his 35-yard Wednesday night wonderstrike.
Barrhead woman Jenny Thomson said: “I’m a big fan of Carey. His left foot is an absolute wand and it was some goal he scored against the Jambos.
“Danny was quite right to compare that goal with some of the ones Gareth Bale scores for Spurs.”
Fans have also taken to Twitter to have their say on Carey’s howitzer.
Mirren Mad (@mirren_mad) Tweeted: “As Andy Gray would have said ... Take a bow son, take a bow.”
Gary Hunter (@gazh0212) added: “Possibly best goal I’ve seen at NSP. Thought he had a good game, aside from free-kick in the second half. #ambitious.”
Cheryl Tumath (@chergar) posted this message: “Fantastic goal from Carey. Was at the game and saw it but watched it back on Alba and WOW!”
Andy Coyle (@STV_Andy) continued the trend by saying: “Only one thing everyone in Scottish football is talking about today – Carey’s thronker against Hearts.”
And there was even praise from Carey’s team-mate David van Zanten (@VanzyD), who wrote: “Goal of the season from my fellow Irishman. What a hit!!
Looking ahead, there is plenty of excitement surrounding tomorrow’s Scottish Cup quarter-final clash with Celtic.
Kevin Brogan, from Seedhill, Paisley, e-mailed to say: “Celtic will be favourites but only a fool would write-off St Mirren’s chances.
“We’ve already beaten them at Hampden in the League Cup and, this time, we’ve got home advantage.
“I watched highlights of Motherwell’s SPL victory against Celtic on Wednesday night and they were able to win by playing a high-tempo pressing game.
“I’d like to see Saints adopt a similar approach this weekend.
“Let’s get stuck into them!”
