Youth supremo David Longwell has heaped praise on St Mirren’s starlets after they kept their fine run of form going with a 1-0 win against Kilmarnock in the Clydesdale Bank Under-20 League.
Jon Scullion bagged the winner for the Buddies at Rugby Park on Tuesday night and Longwell is pleased with the progress being made by the club’s up-and-coming stars.
He said: “I felt it was pretty much an even game but we just about shaded it overall to get the win.
“The goal was excellent. It was a great passing sequence that was topped off with a superb finish from Jon Scullion.
“One of the big positives of the game was that we had two Under-17s making their debuts – Stevie Mallan and Jordan Stewart.”
St Mirren are now breathing down the necks of top two Celtic and Dundee United in the Under-20 League.
And next up for the young Buddies is a league meeting with their Motherwell counterparts in Lanarkshire on Tuesday, February 19
