Heavy snowfall in parts of the country has disrupted some pupils and teachers returning to school after the weekend.
Around 3cm of snow fell in parts of eastern Scotland over six hours on Monday morning, forecasters said. Several schools in Aberdeenshire and the city of Aberdeen were forced to close or end the day early, while others had their transport disrupted.
Ice and snow warnings remain in place for large parts of the country.
In Aberdeenshire, Chapel of Garioch School had to close because all roads approaching the school were blocked by stranded vehicles. Crathes School was closed to pupils because of poor road conditions, while the bad weather closed Towie School completely.
Fifteen other schools in Aberdeenshire either reported school transport not operating or that bus routes were changed. At least six schools or pre-school services in Aberdeen announced partial closures, according to the city council's website. Some schools, including Bridge of Don Academy and Cordyce School, will close early.
Grampian Police said there have been some issues on roads in outlying areas. They advised motorists not to travel on the B976 Crathie to Gairnshiel road and that the B977 Dyce to Fintray road is only suitable for 4x4 vehicles. The B974 Banchory to Fettercairn road is closed.
Grampian Fire and Rescue Service said a vehicle left the road near Forres shortly after 10.30am while another vehicle came off the road near Aboyne just after 8am. There are not thought to be any serious injuries as a result of the accidents.
The first widespread snow showers of the year fell over the weekend and there were further accumulations in the north and east of the country. The Met Office's yellow "be prepared" weather warnings are in place for Grampian, Central, Tayside, Fife, Lothians, the Borders, Strathclyde, the Highlands and the south west of Scotland.
Sean Penston, a forecaster with Meteogroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said eastern areas and higher ground have had quite a few snow showers. Snowfall of 3.1cm was recorded west of Aberdeen between 6am and midday on Monday, he said. Temperatures could also fall to minus 4C in some eastern parts, he added.
Meanwhile, the AA warns that 75% of drivers are not prepared for conditions on the roads and urged drivers to carry an essential winter kit and to check their cars before getting behind the wheel. The RAC is expecting as many as 56,000 breakdowns and widespread disruption across the UK. It has placed extra patrols on stand-by to help stranded motorists and said call-outs are expected to rise by at least 20%.
