A severely emaciated dog is recovering in a care centre after being found abandoned on a beach.
The female lurcher was found at Ayr beach on Sunday and every bone in her body was "clearly visible", SSPCA officers said.
The 18-month-old dog, who has been named Honey by staff, was taken to a vet, where she was given fluids and is now receiving treatment in a care centre. The charity said it did not want to disclose the location.
Inspector Kerry Kirkpatrick said: "Honey is severely underweight and every bone is clearly visible to see and touch.
"She also has puncture wounds on her head which may be a result of a bite by another dog. The vet said the injury is only a few days old but thankfully it has healed and isn't infected.
