St Mirren announce new tie-up with Scotland's Under-21s

Feb 15 2013

by Paul Behan, Paisley Daily Express

St Mirren were last night handed a boost – both in terms of finance and prestige – after their stadium was chosen to host Scotland’s home games in the latest European Under-21 Championships qualification campaign.

All four of Scotland’s qualification matches for the 2013 tournament were staged at St Mirren Park and it will also be the base for the young Bravehearts as they seek to make it to the 2015 finals.

First up is a match against Luxembourg on March 25, followed by clashes with Slovakia in October, Georgia in November and The Netherlands in May 2014.

Billy Stark, Scotland Under-21 coach, told Express Sports: “I’m pleased we have managed to secure St Mirren Park as our home for the 2015 qualification campaign.

“The club were fantastic hosts for us in the last qualification campaign and we have always received great backing there.”

Stark’s team were undefeated in Paisley during the 2013 campaign as they finished second in their group, narrowly missing out on a play-off place for this summer’s finals.
