Three held after police drug raids

16:25, Feb 21 2013

Three people have been arrested and drugs worth about £160,000 seized in separate police raids.

Officers found diamorphine and cocaine with a street value of £90,000 during house searches in Cherry Avenue and Gean Court, Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, at about 7.20pm on Wednesday.

Two men, both aged 26, and a woman, 24, were arrested in connection with the find.

Later the same day, a kilo of heroin worth about £70,000 was recovered near Applecross Street, Possilpark, Glasgow.

Strathclyde Police were alerted after a member of the public reported two men acting suspiciously on the canal bank.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with the find.

Detective Chief Inspector Pat Campbell said: "This recovery shows our ongoing commitment and determination to rid our communities of drugs and the misery they cause.

"Through effective intelligence gathering and the help and support from the public, we continue to deal with this issue head on.

"If anyone has any information about drugs in their community I would ask them to please pass that information on to police and be assured that we take the appropriate action."

The three people arrested over the drug find in Cumbernauld were due to appear in Airdrie Sheriff Court.
